Sounds very similar to my randmom but regular "bang drive" experiences of past with my '99 9-3 SE.
Scenario:
- Car is parked for the night after a typical drive home (moderately aggressive driving) or for similar long duration (at work, etc.)
- Return to start the vehicle
- Press clutch pedal in, all feels fine
- Start car, again all feels fine
- Go to shift out to first and gear shift appears to be "stuck" in reverse
- If at this time one elects to let up on the clutch pedal, it seems to travel a bit higher than usual and will then the tranny "bang" the car into motion
- Shifting returns to normal after this initial oddity
My solution? Flushed and refilled the transmission with the new gear lube spec provided by SAAB. Result? Not one re-occurrence since and shifting action much improved.
Try this first before going for the clutch, much cheaper if it works.
