broken nylon tail in antenna motor -- how to remove?

I broke off the antenna on my '99 9-3 last week and ordered a replacement from eeuroparts.com. Well the replacement had about 20" of a nylon tail hanging out of it, and I still had the broken one and noticed it only had like 6". So I fed the lead into the motor, and then turned the motor off and it retracted it down to about 75% down, but wouldn't go any further. Well.... I thought I was smart so I cut off the nylon tail thinking it was just too long, but now the tail is obviously is too short and doesn't stay connected to anything. I believe I realized my error and when the old antenna broke off, the nylon cable also broke off inside of the motor.... how do I remove it so that I can install a new antenna?
