Keyfob "Batteries?"

Hello all -- I've been checking archives for the answer to my question, but I haven't quite found the answer in any of those older messages regarding keyfobs. I just got my 9-3 a few weeks ago, and it just spent a few days at the dealership. The keyfob was working fine when I dropped it off, and noticed once I got it back home & attempted to use the keyfob to lock the doors, it won't work now. Do they run on batteries? Does this mean a battery is dead? Just a coincidence that now it doesn't work after being at the dealership? Is it common for those to stop working? I haven't tried my 2nd keyfob yet to see if it works.
