I think a Linear is actually a better match to a 1.8T.
And a good friend has a new A4 3.0Q, but a 6 six speed.

Its too bad you don't care for the cloth on the doors of a Linear. I didn't think about it at first, but have found that, in the summer heat, I don't stick to the cloth like I do in our 9-5. And, after the software upgrade, the stereo at least sounds decent for some GNR or Andrea Boccelli. Not quite the HK, but decent.

I have two MAJOR reservations about his A4. The terrible ride and very tight front accomodations. He does have the sport chassis (as do I on the 9-3), and I have also experienced the base A4 susension. the sport is very jiggly and busy and handles okay. But the car feels as if its on its tippy toes. The base (he had one as a loaner) was very floaty and loved to understeer.
the front seat room does not compare with the airy feeling of the 9-3. Audi saw fit to put a curve at the leading edge of the center console, which your leg may rest upon. Very uncomfortable. And his BOSE stereo stinks too. The Monsoon that was in both of our VW Passats as far superior.

From a quality point, its a crapshoot. Both are first year runs for new models. the Audi has a better intial feel, but their parts simply do not last (window switches, etc). I can reflect on my Aunts '90 SPG, 280K miles, and everything still works.
