You will probably find that most cars will behave the same way. My 9-3 also starts slower when the fuel tank gets low. Previous cars, 1999 Explorer and 1997 Accord also started slower on a low tank of gas. The Accord was the worst of the three. I have never done any experimental test to confirm my theory, but here it goes:
When the tank of fuel gets low, there is less pressure or potential energy in the tank (F = mgh) and can allow fuel in the gas line/pump to drain back into the tank. With a full tank of gas, fuel won’t be able to drain back as it will take too much energy to raise the level of fuel in the tank, as there is more mass. When the engine is warm, the fuel has not had enough time to drain back into the tank.
