Please tell me if you see any faults in the logic of the following plan for upgrading the audio in my base 99 9-3 (single in-dash CD, no amp, changer or door speakers):
? Installation of Sony 10-Disc CD changer (about $100 on ebay), operating through direct connection to antenna (this is an RF connection, supplied with changer but connecting directly to the Saab's antenna jack). Powered through splice of factory changer harness (does this feed receive constant power even though no factory changer was installed/interfaced? Does anyone have a schematic of wire colors or a plug diagram for this connection?). Changer has a wired display that shows track and artist information based on the CD-Text system, and it looks like it would fit with the Saab decor very nicely.
? Installation of 5.25", 1.88" deep speakers (about $20 on ebay) in door bays, fed by splices from front outputs on back of stereo. Speakers are "midbass", and should bring additional bass to the front from the floor area while keeping the adequate front dash speakers in tact. I plan to use the speaker connections already present in the door, and then cut them after they pass through the door connection, splicing in new wires straight to the head unit. Does anyone know if 1.88" is too deep for the door mount positions? I don't want to take off the door panels until I need to for installation.
? Installation of 6"x9" dual cone JBL speakers ($20, I've had good experience with these in other cars) in rear. Should be simple swap.
I'm leaving out an amp for the time being because I'm not so much interested in power as I am in low-frequency bass and quality. For CDs in the dash player, the quality seems to be just fine with the stock setup -- except that I have the bass at maximum and the fade set mostly to rear, and the bass still doesn't seem to be as rich as it should be in a car like this!
Thanks for your help -- I have a basic understanding of wiring and electrical modifications, but tips or experience would be really helpful! Also, any information supplemental to the online guide about removing door panels (tips/experience) for speaker installation would really help me!
Thanks again.
