We live on a rural property. The local deer mice are wild about our 9-3. They nest on the cabin air filter, chew up insulating materials and hold conferences under the hood liner. We have tried traps and added wire screens, but nothing was fullly effective until recently. For those with a similar problem, here is the answer.

Call your local pest control company and order an ultrasound generator. The high frequency sounds repel mice. The units are usually used to keep the animals away from sheds and garages, but the one we have works just fine tucked in the engine bay. Remembering to unplug it before driving away is no more of an issue than remembering to unplug the block heater in the winter.
