I sell a lot of Garmin products in the boating industry, and the most likely reason for the problem is that BMW may use a metallic tint in the windscreen such as a Polarized tinting that causes the signal from the satelites to be relflected off the windscreen and thefore preventing the GPS unit to fix properly to a signal.
