i have all kinds. the digital type are a gimmick, IMHO. if you don't get it quite on there straight and there's some leakage...it's still going to give you a reading ( a wrong reading ). The pencil kind stink because you only get one push...more or less the same as the digital.
The dial kind lets you manipulate the position of the gage to the valve stem and you can see the needle moving as you do it (the better ones). when you have it right, you know it. The better ones read accurately and repeatably. repeatability is important because even if you're off one psi you at least want it to be always off in the right direction (all four tires the same)
I like the ones with the little bleed valve on the side so you can just slightly over inflate the tire and then bleed off air with the gage in place.
