Dunno about the stock equipment in your '99, but my '01 Viggen came with OnStar which I never use. I had a Nokia hands-free kit (model 91) installed (profe$$ionally - ouch) and it integrates perfectly with the audio system, but does not make use of the built-in mic - I have an additional mic that came with the kit installed right next to it. Supposedly the Triad device will allow these to work together but my installer said not such a good idea so I went with his advice. He couldn't give me a decent explanation why not to use the Triad.
From what I've read the thing that distinguishes a Nokia kit from others is that it supports radio mute on call/dial meaning when you call someone as soon as the phone on the other end rings the radio/cd cuts out. Conversely if someone calls you the radio/cd cuts out.
I'd ask the dealer about what the '99 supports. While I paid someone for the install it seems like a reasonable DIY project. The only part that I'm not sure about is how he wired up the antenna - he put what he called a "stealth" antenna on the subframe under the hatch so that no additional antennas other than the one on top of the car are visible. The only question would be how he ran the wiring for that.
