I agree with most of what has been said.
T7, no silencer, air box not that bad and the trumpet is not bad compared to the T5
With the trumpet or snorkle tube removed. The air box simply has a hole I guess. That will take in hot air and cost power. And noise? If its what I am imagining, there will be a lot of turbulance. That might be upsetting the MAF, but thats a guess. I have not studied that config on a T7 9-3. With the MAF close to or at the box, some flow smoothing might be needed.
A whole in a box creates losses. A tube with a bell mouth causes less losses, and the larger the tube, less losses, until the tube is about the size of the end of the box. On my T7 9-5 the air box if in the fender and the air intake snakes around to go up high infront of the radiator. A bit complicated to work on.
I would put the snorkle tube back in for now. Someone offered their air box for free or sale after fitting an optiflow. Having that to mod would be good too. I don't recall anyone doing a 3" duct mod to a T7 9-3. Anyone want to tell me of one and how its working out?
