Some of this improvement that you feel will to some extent also be a measure of how restricted the old paper element had become with dirt loading. How old/miles did it have.

Off boost mpg's should not change, because any reduction in air filter restriction just means that the throttle ends up more restricted to get the same air flow. Autozone promotes this myth as well. Such things were true with carbs, as the lowered pressure could effect the AF mixture. But with O2 sensor feedback, that is not going to happen.

Now we do have examples of increases in boost increasing MPGs. But MPGs are determined by mostly off boost conditions. How can that be. One line if thought is the "Italian Tune Up" priciple. You blow thre grud out. With todays vehicles, the likey candidate is blowing out the cat converter. Cat converter deposits will create exhaust restrictions that effect MPGs. When I first got a MBC on my 95SET years ago. I was going out for boost runs and then adjusting. When I got if right and had things heated up, one run produced a large exhaust cloud, which was of very short duration. Perhaps that was the cat been blown out.

I see that you are driving an SS. Not many mods out for that right now. You have a new exhaust already. Keep your injectors clean and plugs right.
