Let me get this straight, you're worried about reliability in your 9-3 SE, so you want to buy a '99 Viggen?
While I'd be all for the decision to get a Viggen, I wouldn't think of a '99 Viggen as a more reliable car than any 9-3 SE. It's the first of the T7, the first of the changes from the NG900, it's 5 years old, it's a much tighter car (read bumps shake more things loose), and it's got a high probability of being ragged on by the previous owner.
And if your 9-3 was too low for snow, forget about it in the Viggen. Sure traction in ice won't be a problem with good snow-tires, but it's ground clearance that kills you in many cars - that's what did it to me in this year's blizzard (I'm in Maryland, outside DC).
It sounds like you'd rather be convinced it's ok to spring for the Viggen, rather than looking at it as a more reliable and practical car. In that case, who needs a reason. Just bite the bullet, and get a Viggen and a dog-sled for the worst snows :-)
