Bill-I have noticed exactly the same thing on my '99 Viggen. The rear passenger's tire inner half of the tread is totally cupped. (odd flat spots every 3-4 inches) I had the car aligned and was told the rear was slightly out of spec, but that nothing could be done about it. I bought the car new and never hit anything, so I'd strongly suspect it is not a bent axle.

It is a very frustrating problem as my summer tires are uni directional so I cannot switch tires side to side. Odd thing is, it is far more pronounced on the passenger's side than the driver's side.

Please let me know what you find out, as I am at a loss for what to do. Dealer says he cannot help me. Says it is symptomatic of all 17" low profile applications.

BTW-my car has 70k miles, about half done on wimter tires which are 16" and do not exhibit near as much cupping. The 17" tires seem to be good for about 15-18k before the cupping is too obnoxious.
