I use the 1/2 mile from freeway exit to my driveway at normal speeds as my cool down. I used to own an 83 900 Turbo that we religiously cooled down and it went over 200K on the original turbo. Now that the turbo technology has advanced so far and is liquid cooled, I don't feel it is necessary and our '99 9-3, which I drive on the aggressive side, has been our best Saab yet. I think you are safe either way. Saab's documention indicates it is no longer required, but it's still up to you.
