My pads were only around 1/2 used. I probably could've used them to wear out another set of rotors. The outer edge of the pad digs a deeper groove into the rotor because the slots don't extend that far out. Hmm, come to think of it, that proves the slots do cause extra wear on the pads. I think many brake vibrations are caused by hair trigger feet! The brake pedal is like a gun trigger. You're supposed to squeeze, not slam.
