Alex,
I know exactly what you're talking about. I too have cronic problems with my HVAC control knobs. I believe I am on number 4 and long out of my warranty. I am also afflicted with the cold weather crunch. Heard it for the 1st time this year just today. Temps dipped to 20 in WI today. I predicted the classic crunch before I even got in my car. Sure enough, left theparking lot, hit a dip in the road, "CRUUUNCH". It just bummed me out so much.
Here's the worst one yet, the other night I was on the highway, it was in the high to mid 40's and drizzling. So the highway was wet. I wanted to pass this guy in front of me so I dropped it into 4th at about 70 MPH and goosed it. Spool up, and all of a sudden my RPM's rocket. "Whoa! That sucked". So I let off the gas, put it back in 5th and nursed it for a while. I'm thinkin clutch right out of the gate, I'm a pesimist (sp) so of course I think worst case. You know, just paid for a real expensive TV, now 900 bones for a clutch job. Classic. I get on an access road along side the highway and get the courage to try to duplicate the problem. This time in 3rd, give it heavy gas, same thing but this time the front end seems to be jumping a little. Now I'm really bummed out. I get to my parents place and call my wife just whining about having to get a new clutch yada, yada, yada. My wife, being the sensible one says, "Maybe your tires broke free and they spun." I'm thinkin, no way.... So about a week of light peddled driving goes by and I get the courage to try to duplicate the problem again, on dry pavement this time. No matter how hard I tried, I could not duplicate it. JOY! So I'm cleaning out my car a day or so later, and what do I find in the hatch? 120 punds of water softener salt that I forgot to unload before that ugly, wet drive out to my parents place. Seems that the combo of weight in the back end and the wet pavement were enough to let my tires go under heavy acceleration. Stupid me. I sulked for days over this "problem". My wife is still laughing at me.
Sorry to hear about your wheel/tire. Knock on wood, my somewhat new 17's are still ding free. But lucky for me, there really isn't that much parallel parking in Green Bay. I'm very careful with them. Unfortunately, sometime very soon I'm going to have to put my Delta's back on. I love the way those wheels look.
Later,
SR
BTW: Did you ever get your stereo parts and peices installed? If so, how's it sound?
