This may sound like snake oil, but it is working for me. I found a product called GTA Fuel additive on the internet. Their description of how it works made sense to me. I won’t try to explain it since you can find the details on the internet. There are several technical papers that seemed to validate its performance so I bought it. It has improved my mileage 10-15 % (2002 9-3 SE convertible with auto transmission and Taliaferro’s Stage 2 ECU upgrade – Wow what a product!). I average 22-24 mpg in town and a little over 30 – 31 mpg when averaging 70 mph on the highway. Best I ever did on the highway before was 26-27 mpg before the Stage 2 ECU upgrade.City mileage was about 19 mpg before. My wife’s 2002 Escalade’s mileage has improved about 20 %. I bought it primarily to improve performance (it boosts octane). My car runs very well with it.
I also use Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner religiously every 3,000 miles as Chevron recommends. I use Chevron gas when I can get it.
At a minimum I would try the Chevron Techron. It is a great product with lot’s of accolades on these boards. Dean (one of the best gurus on the boards) recommends it too. Depending on your car’s mileage, you may need two applications. If you want to take a chance try the GTA fuel additive too. Two ounces does 15 gallons and a quart costs ~ $20. I now buy it by the gallon (~ $60) and add it to every tank. Hope this is helpful. It works for me.
