The 1/4" diameter magnet is much much more powerful than the tiny Anoco magnets in the inexpensive units. So a stronger magnetic field is bound to work better. Unless you are prepared to argue that a weak magnet would be better. The price is a concern, but it works. Remember not to play with the magnet. It can attact itself to steel and iron with enough froce to get damaged. With an aluminum oil pad, that part is easy.
I have on in a 9-5, one in a Passat diesel and one left with my rear ended 95SET. So I have purchased three of these.
And having a 7/8" hex head is an improvement as well.
