Smoke can be a couple things... One common thing is leaky seals in the turbo. Oil drips in & burns when you start. You can remove the piping from the turbo (sounds easy, huh??) to inspect.
My '01 gets the smoke, when oil drips from the crankcase vent tube. That's the steel tube attached to the air intake just as it turns downwards into the compressor inlet.
Saab has claimed that it can be caused by startup fuel enrichment, which would make it normal.
