I agree that with a standard shifting style, the synchro wear will not increase. However, I do double-clutch when I up and downshift, so my synchros are getting a little extra workout this way. I'm sure they're still good for 200k or better, if my classic 900's gearbox was any indication.
What I miss is the satisfaction of the gear lever just dropping into gear without any resistance when the revs are properly matched. I can still do it in the Viggen - I just have to count to 3 with the gearshift in neutral before dropping it in.
The second annoyance is that it doesn't slow down immediately on the highway when I lift for "the fuzz". It just floats along like an automatic for a couple of seconds, then starts to slow. This means I get to signal everyone with my brake lights that I'm going a bit over the limit.
Thirdly, if I want to tighten up my line in a fast corner, I can't do it quite as readily by lifting the throttle. Maybe this is a form of "traction control" to prevent lift-throttle spin-outs???

Saab used to put a "hooter valve" on turbo models, which dumped the boost when the throttle was closed. It was activated directly by manifold vacuum. This kept the turbo spinning during the shift by reducing the work it performed, making the turbo feel more responsive. The Viggen has one, too (just above the radiator fan), but it is actuated by a solenoid on the firewall. That said, holding the throttle open might help to reduce the manifold pressure to assist the hooter valve. Personally, I'd rather have two hooter valves than deal with the slow throttle return.
Just my opinion, and I still think I have a great car.
