Driver's knee room question Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Tue, 20 Jul 2004 05:39:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've been looking at used '01 93, as they're coming off-lease now. I've noticed that the bolster under the steering column really limits my knee room. And I like the classic 'Italian' laid back driving position. It's even worse for my wife, who prefers an upright position, closer to the wheel - necessary for her height (or lack thereof). Just moving her leg from the gas to the brake, and she risks whacking her knee on the bolster.
I know that bolster provides crash protection, but if my wife ends up whacking her knee in an emergency situation going for the brake, she may end up needing both the bolster and the airbags. It doesn't help that the gas pedal seems to be far forward of the brake pedal.
Has anyone else encountered this issue? Anyone come up with a solution, other than dropping the seat significantly? For my 5'3" wife, that'll mean no view of the road, but a good view of traffic lights and passing airplanes.
Interestingly, the 9-5 has significantly more knee room for the driver, and this is not an issue. We were just hoping to save a few bucks and go with a 9-3.
