Simply draining and refilling the reservoir won't do it. There is little or no exchange of fluid in the system; the fluid out at the brake pistons doesn't move much.
The only right way to flush the system is to, well, flush it. This is a general method, not necessarily 9-3 specific. You drain the reservoir and fill with fresh fluid. You open the bleed nipple at the farthest brake caliper, and with the reservoir under pressure, the fluid will come out. Continue until the fluid comes out clear. The reservoir must always have fluid.
This is best done with a pressure bleeder. The amount of brake fluid is usually around 1 liter. I recommend you buy 3 bottles, each 1/2 liter (1 pint). Why not just one big one? Because brake fluid goes 'bad' once the container is opened. So this way you open the fewest necessary. Keep the unopened container in your emergency kit.
