If you're mechanically inclined you can take the cover off the changer and look for problems while it opperates. Sometimes they wear to a point and then start to malfunction. A shot of lubrication it the right spot sometimes brings them back to life. Be careful to not squirt anything on the laser.
I tried this approach with the changer in my daughters car. The mechanism worked fine and I could see the track changes but there was no sound. After reassembling the unit, I cleaned the connecter and re-connected it several times and then it worked fine.
