You should look at the model summaries for 99-02 that are linked off the site's top page as "Older Saab Models Info."
9-3 and 9-3 S are the same thing -- the base model. The "S" designation really doesn't apply to the 9-3 but carried over in some documentation. The SE has the high-output turbo, some other stuff to make it zippier, and more general doodadery.
You might not get your complete absense of rattle and shake. These cars seem to be a bit prone, and there can be some cold weather groan in the suspension. But, for me at least, the 9-3's many virtues outweigh such nits. I bought a fresh-off-lease 00 9-3 base with 29.5K last summer and love its balance of driving fun, comfort, styling and utility.
