Chains and bearings... to pay or not to pay...

I seem to have three options (see link to previous post below):

1) Do nothing after the oil screen cleaning, with the knowledge that the engine will fail sometime in the next 10-50k miles when the chain breaks or one of the bearings goes. (see post by ab) Continue using an engine flush and change the oil avery 1500 miles to keep the oil screen open.

2) Replace both main and rod bearings, and cut and remove the balance chain from the bottom w/o replacing it, as suggested here and elsewhere. Then run the car for a few thousand miles while looking into the other two major items, a complete rebuild of the rear brakes, and power steering leaks.

3) Engine out. New bearings, chains, guides, main engine seals, clutch, clutch cable, shift linkage and possibly engine mounts.

As always, opinions and suggestions are welcome... ;)
