Why not, while you're at it, blame Exxon if you run out of gas?
(I'm calmer now...)
Here are some helpful cold-weather driving tips from the frozen tundra northwest of Boston:
* Use decent washer fluid rated to -30. I don't know of any independent testing services that monitor the proportions of water to anti-freezing agents (glycols, alcohols, etc.) but colder ratings are better.
* Let the car warm up before wiping to enable engine heat to thaw any ice blockage. This is just common sense.
* On extremely cold nights, washer fluid may freeze on the glass surface and cause streaks, especially if you're moving. This is just the way it is, folks. Not much you can do. We obey the laws of thermodynamics...
* On that last point, the SID is a liquid crystal display. Now who can tell me what happens to liquids in extreme cold? That's right: It condenses, not quite enough to freeze, but enough to affect the transmission of the data through it. (Want to test it? Leave a laptop in your trunk in -10 degree weather.)
There's not much you can do about the creaky front suspensions, except to remove the subframe and lube ALL the bushings and suspension contact points. I'm going to do this to my SET progect car, but only because the engine is out of it anyway.
My last point is this: In the Northeast, this is the coldest winter in the last 50 years, according to the National Weather Service.
