Here was my latest. Perhaps somebody can learn from it.
I was in for rear brakes and a new set of winters awhile
ago and the shop told me to attend to what appeared to them
to be one bad bushing on the passenger's side.
Stupid me, not having dealt much with the tire shop on other
services they offer I thought
'I will go to performance bushings
all round but not right now.'
Sure enough, I went for an alignment the other day and
they discovered I had worn out that bushing to the point
where the wear had gone on to affect the ball joint.
1 ball joint job: CDN $262.00 (notsobad I am told by my
neighbor and his buddy who knew of various prices and jobs
on other cars)
Lesson: When a mechanic gives you a choice that can save
you money in the longer run, best to spend the money early
and believe him on the small stuff.
