Traction T/A has a 60,000 mile tread life warranty (pro-rated).

I have about 5k on a relatively new set, and they did ok in the 8-inches of snow we had in the Midwest this weekend. Nice and quiet on dry roads, too.
They are 4-season tires, so not as precise in cornering as summer high-perf tires on 16-inch rims, or as good on snow as euro winter tires.
If I were to pay for winter tires for this car, I would get the 15-inch steel rims, if only to save the Saab rims from salt and pothole damage. If the car (and rims) came from a state that does not have hard winters, I would definitely try to keep them looking nice.
Replacing one bent alloy rim can be more expensive than a set of steelies... and sometimes you can find a set of used Saab rims with mounted tires here in the classifieds or on eBay for less than the price of a set of new tires.
