I purchased my Viggen last month. Before that car I drove a 1994 900S (my girlfriend drives it now) for a little over a year. I also am a high milage driver and I looked at a 9-3 S, 9-3 SE, and happened accross the Viggen a few days after test driving the the S and SE. The 9-3 S did fit the bill of what I wanted....it had decent passing power, drove nice on the highway, but was lacking something. I drove the SE right after the S and my girlfriend said she noticed a difference in me and how I drove it...I liked the SE alot more and would have been very happy with the car. I was looking online to see what the local dealers had and there was a Viggen in stock...I had never driven one, and knew little about them....took it for a test drive and was "wowwed" Spent the rest of the day thinking about the car, and borrowed it that evening and drove it around a little more - the car was super comfortable on the highway, and on the back roads (I live in Colorado) - and when it came to passing, I pass with confidence. For the first week I wondered if I should have gotten the SE due to the price difference, but when you add up the cost of the mods that I would have had to have done to get the same performance it quickly closed the gap. While the fact that it is lower then a SE has caused me some grief (I did scratch up the front spoiler in the first week) - you will learn quickly, and I have not noticed any issues in the snow (I also have a set of 9-3 SS Saab wheels/snow tires that are a little larger in diamiter to give me a little more "clearance" for the snow).
As for the boost in the Viggens....I have noticed that mine seems to "adjust" to my driving style and what type of gas you put in it (91 vs 93 octane). When I first picked it up, it didn't seem to be as quick as it could have been (my mechanic even said something about it) - after a few days of driving it's as fast as other Viggens my mechanic has driven. I'm 6'2, 235lbs...I find the seats extremely comfotable in the Viggen, especially on hour + drives. I have a 2005 9-5 loaner right now...and I miss my Viggen seats.
