I have gone back and read old posts, but new information seems to be conflicting with the old stuff. I'm getting confused.
I have a CPO '01 9-3 base. The VIN number would include my car in the group that should have the head bolts retorqued. Also, I'm starting to see blue smoke on startup (indicating a need for the crankcase vent modification).
If the thing is already blowing blue smoke it means it's too late and oil has worked its way into the turbo past the seals and is getting burned-off by the turbo. If I'm understanding what I've read, if this is the case not only does the vent mod have to be performed but the turbo itself and the piping to it need to be replaced as they're likely coated with oil now that the oil migrated there. The dealer shouldn't "cheap-out" and simply perform the mod after the fact, right?
Now I'm reading that some people are talking about REVERSING their crankcase vent mod because it's CAUSING oil to migrate!?!?
Please help end my confusion. SHOULD I have my head bolts retorqued? SHOULD I have the crankcase vent modification done? SHOULD I have them replace the turbo and piping to it? SHOULD I be worried about engine "sludge"? I live in a climate that never drops below around 40F but can get up to 110F or more during the summer. I think temp has an effect on the "oil sludge" thing, right?
I just had the car into the dealer for its 60K mile oil change. This Saab dealer tells me they use semi-synthetic. The car is still under CPO warranty so if any of this expensive work needs to be done I want to do it on Saab's dime, not mine!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
