coolant temperature (NTC) sensor question

I’ve been battling a dipping temperature gage for a couple months now with two trips to my Saab only indy. On my first trip I asked them to replace the T-stat, but I guess they tested the T-stat and found no problem with it (closed when cold, open when hot) and replaced the sender instead. I did the same test after the fact and found the same thing. Since the problem continued I took it back in and they replaced the T-stat this time, however I still get the dipping gage. I’ve posted twice on this already so I’ve attached a link to the previous post. As far as I can tell the engine is running perfectly (never overheats, always have heat in cabin, good gas mileage), only my gage will run cold every so often when the outside temperature dips below 35F.
I was doing some searching on eEuroparts and found the NTC sensor so I did some searching on Saabnet to see what this part does. From what I’ve read this sensor sends the coolant temperature to the computer that is then used in the engine temperature gage. Most people reporting a problem with the NTC sensor reported a high idle when the engine was cold. When my engine is started it will idle at 1100, which I wouldn’t consider high. I checked to make sure the connection was OK (it’s hard getting a hand down into this area) and it didn’t appear to be loose in any way.
I hate just throwing parts at a car hoping that it fixes the problem, but for $25 I might give it a try. Does anyone else have any advice?
TIA,
