Jacking up: Weird construction

I am starting with my first DIY things on my '95 900S 2.3. Finally I got a good set of jack stands, chokes, etc.
Now I was trying to jack up the car in the following manner: Use one of the five official jack spots on the car to lift it with a hydraulic jack. Then put the jack stands under there and gently let down the frame and pull out the hydraulic jack.
Well, at least in theory, until I realized: There is just no space left to put the jack stands next to the jack.
How do you DIYs jack your car up securely without damaging the plastic cover?
-Jan.
