BUT, it also wouldn't hurt them in the least to help you-out.
I'd say the whole attitude at the SvcDept needs to change. Bottom line, it would not a huge problem for them to help you if for no other reason than that it would be good business. Especially considering the sheer number of DI's that a dealer probably goes-through--if they do any volume at that dealership at all they probalby have a stack of empty DI boxes in the back.
Who did you write the message-to? You need to address at least the GM of that dealership. Make sure that you copy Saab USA. If Saab wants to be an "upper class" marketed vehicle than their service should reflect that.
It would probably help to ask the "right" way--otherwise you're just some schmoe off the street----and remember, those service guys didn't see a dime from the initial sale----possibly you can go back to the guy who actually sold the car and have him leverage something for you?
May have been posted, but what was the name of that dealer with the JACKASSES running the Service Department? I want to make sure that I avoid them if I'm in the area and my DI fails AGAIN. Everyone at Saab should be embarrassed about the number of DI failures and the dealers should be working their hardest to help GM aviod a law-suit. Mike Lynch---I'm sure there have been some internal memos regarding treatment of customers who've been subjected to DI failures? Or maybe not, that might make too much sense...
Also, Mike Lynch, regarding your battery analogy--Every car produced has a battery. Every battery has an expected service life. By your direct comparison between a battery and a DI Cassette are you saying that a DI should be expected to fail just like a battery? Here are two truths: batteries fail in every car, and the DI's we're talking-about are unique to Saab. Considering those truths, is it fair to say that every battery in every Saab can be reasonably expected to fail within 3-5 years? If that is true (which it is), and your comparison is true, then it can be reasonibly expected that every Saab with a T-7 DI can expect to also have an ignition failure in 3-5 years...which also (unfortunately) seems to be true. Have I gone astray here?
GIVE THE POOR GUY A BOX!
By the way, I still have that box left-over from my DI failure that left me stranded on a dark road last week that I can send to you--no joke.
