Hi all,

I'll try and keep the story short and pointed. Car in question is a '00 9-3SE, 5 speed.

Monday before last I had to commute from Massachusetts to NYC for work and wife had to go to NJ for work. We were stuck in horrendous traffic on the Merrit Parkway...literally went 10 miles in 3 hours. Wife dropped me in the city and continued on to NJ.

As she got on the NJ turnpike car began running strange, smoking a bit from under hood, and smelling like burning plastic. She called me after she had continued to drive it to a dealer close to her destination. I suspected the DI cassette and was correct. Dealer replaced it and all was well till the next day.

Next day she told me car was making a rattling type of noise. I said it would be a good idea to take it back to the dealer by her office. Well, she did not do that and drove it back to NYC to pick me up on Thursday. When she got into the city she told me the car was sounding terrible and a trip to start it at the parking garage confirmed that it did indeed sound terrrible. I suspected one of the pulleys.

Took it to a dealer in NYC last Friday (name withheld because I don't want to sound like I'm bashing them...they were kind enough to get us in quickly). Service calls me that day and says it's the water pump and they will have it done that day for us to be on our way home. I thought this was strange because my dealer at home had replaced the pump in February of this year. Whatever...freak occurance or something.

They call me later that same day and tell me that one of the banjo bolts is stripped and they don't have one in the shop, have to order one and it will be Monday. OK....we rent a car and drive home for the weekend.

Monday comes and the water pump is installed. They test everything out and the A/C compressor seizes up. They have to order parts and replace....car will be done today (Wednesday 6-15).

I call this afternoon because I have not heard from them.....Now, water pump installed, A/C compressor installed and....are you ready for this??? Now, the car is overheating after running for 20-25 minutes.

I explain to the service guy that I have been driving these cars for 8 years and have spent my fair amount of time under the hood of some classic 900's and this 9-3 and I know them pretty well. So I ask him to tell me what he feels is going on. He says the tech thinks it is the fan switch or temp sender. I say those are pretty easy fixes...will I be out of here tomorrow?

I asked my wife once more today if the car ever overheated on her last week and if there were any warning indicators lit at any point....she maintains her "absolutely not" position.

I'm starting to worry that maybe the headgasket is gone now or something...not to mention what kind of damage is happening to my car by having the dealer run it till it overheats.

What is going on here? Is this kind of snowball effect possible? I have never had anything but minor problems with this car until now. I take care of it very well.

I'm stuck in the city and I just don't know what to do besides of wait and trust this dealer. Am I wrong to do that at this point?

The only upside to all of this is that I have an extended warranty which is covering almost all of this (even a portion of the rental car) and I'm getting FREE parking in NYC.

Any advice? I'm really worried that something else is going to happen tomorrow that will prevent me from getting the car again. I've got to get back to Massachusetts for Friday morning.

Help!!

Thanks for reading,

Todd
