It depends where you live.
Currently there is a near monopoly in the Saab "chip" market that no one wants to talk-about.
The European tuners have (and do have) a strangle-hold on the market. According to some, American tuning companies don't have the ability to credibly tune Saabs. Of course that isn't true, but the fact that Saab constitutes such a small minority of the total vehicles sold in the US has caused many tuners to skip-over the potential market. Meanwhile, the US Saab faithful have had to put-up with practically being raped when it comes to engine management tuning.
Jak has put a stop to that for the LH cars, but Trionic still remains. One US company has taken notice and is developing Trionic tuning and that company is Powerchip.
If anyone tries to tell you that Trionic: is "totally unique", or "needs special attention" disreagard them because they're only perpetuating the current lock-out and don't know what they're talking-about. Saab's use a variation of the CAN bus and that is NOT UNIQUE. The only thing that makes Saab engine management different from other companies is it's use of ionic knock detection through the spark plugs by means of an 80V signal, post detonation---and that's it. The rest is NOT UNIQUE OR DIFFERENT.
Once a person deciphers the check sums and knows which data package does what, and Powerchip does, it's only a matter of personal taste as to how the tuning is done--ie, more torque or hp and where that power is located in relation to rpm's.
Buy Powerchip, a US product for nearly half the money, and feel good about it. Break the monopoly and force the rest of the manufactures to be competetive in their largest market. Otherwise the current pracitce of backroom agreements and price fixing will continue, at the expense of us, the consumers.
