Here's a run-down of everything that's happened so far.
--2003-11-20 (30072mi): 30K Service
--2003-12-10 (30649mi): In for stumbling at idle and inability for engine to catch after a good run on the interstate - cranking power is very strong just no catch. Engine eventually starts after car has adequate time to cool. Mechanic says: "Checked TPS reading. found TPS requested reading high at idle .92volts and 8.92volts at open throttle. call techline told reading were high. check if reading come down slow or fast they drop fast. Replaced throttle body and checked reading tps .21volts at idle and 4.25 volt open throttle road tested ok". Everything after this was fine until . . .
--2004-01-01 (31464mi): Stall and no crank, no nothing. Mechanic says: "DTC test it show fault code P0327 and then replace DI cassette and clear fault code".
This week I noticed one stumble while driving around 35-40 mph but couldn't be sure if it was a bump in the road or the feeling of throttle cut. Didn't happen again so I blew it off. Today I was driving in slow interstate traffic due to an accident after travelling about 10 miles at 75-80mph. At slow speeds car began stumbling but made it to my destination. Upon leaving destination back to step one above. Car cranks strong but won't catch. Wait for SAAB roadside assistance. By the time the guy gets there the car has cooled enough to crank so I just drive it to the dealer. It was white-knuckles all the way as the car began stumbling badly at speeds around 70-75mph, but made it anyway.
So, did the dealer only hide the problem with the previous stumbling by replacing the throttle body? Is the stumbling really a sign of a DI cassette on it's way out of commission? Is there something that could make a DI cassette fail this quickly. Service Mgr said unlikely that the DI cassette is failing again. I fricking want it fixed correctly this time.
I tell you what, I love that Viggen when it's running but having been stranded twice in 2 months my patience is wearing thin with the car. I've NEVER owned a vehicle that left me stranded twice in 2 months, and I've never payed so much for a vehicle (I know, I know quit yer bitchin, there's much more expensive toys out there that are just as unreliable). Anyway, if you've made it this far thanks for letting me gripe.
The saving grace is yet again I have a 9-3SS ragtop, in the rainy 40F Atlanta weekend weather. It's a nice car but the poor rearview visibility is tough to get used to, especially when you can't take advantage of top-down.
Later,
