Hi Dean,
thanks for this post.
I have a problem related to the IAC and you seems to be the right person to ask for. (anyone else is very welcome to give hints or suggestions however)
Everithing started with CEL ligheting up after feeling the engine misfiring. It was about time to change the sparks plug, so I did, taking the chance of looking at the DI cassette for oil leaks.
The DI cassette looked perfect, so I changed the spark plugs, the air filter and I took off the IAC to check it.
The IAC looked filthy, oily black deposits on the tubes and the gate.
I cleaned thoroughly with dish soap, a tini brush, hot water and then with thrielin (solvent).
Ay the end of the cleaning process I poured some sinthetic oil in the gate and then let drip it out for half an hour.
The gate was shinihg at this point and also the tubes were like new.
I did not clean the TBTC because I had no time.
I Noticed the shaking tha IAC the gate moved form close to a little bit open. I did not try to force the gate to pen more then it did on his own.
Reassambled everithing, cames the problem!!!
The idle is now absolutely crazy. After acceleration it takes too long for the engine to settle back to normal idle spedd (1000 rpm).
I I switch the AC on (I have no clucth on the compressor at the moment because it's coil is burned) the idle speed jumps to 2000 rpm and then again it takes a long time to settle.
If I go from park to drive again the idle speed goes up like crazy and the car jumps whith the wheel slipping.
I disconnected the plug form the IAC and the idle goes from 1000 to 1200 rpm, but it stays there even with ac on or in drive.
From what above it seems that the IAC is working, but fully out of range and that it is not responding fast enough when needed to take the idle back to normal speed.
I also noticed that the long (I believe inlet) rubber hose gets pressurized (it gets hard) when accelerating like if the turbo is pressurizing it.
The CEL light is now off after crancking the engine and, instead, it flashes three times then six times and repeat if I turn the key on, but without crancking the engine.
Another thing I noticed is that the check valve (oil vapour recirculation from the valve cover) is now bidirectional. I mean that it has lost the property of letting air flow trough only in one way, so it can blow air in the valve cover when under boost.
Do I need to repeat the cleaning process?
Do I need to replace the IAC with a new one?
Is there something I need to check???
Thanks for your help and sorry for the long post.
ciao from Italy
