alex what i did was take two cable ties and wrap them as tightly as possible around the knob shaft - used a pair of needle nose pliers to get them real snug and closely snipped off the loose ends , i then coated the whole deal with a little epoxy if i get a chance i will post a picture if you need , it work's well and now makes the knob not the weak link in the design and when the drum starts to bind you can crank on the knob a bit without it breaking . it seems that over time the whole mechanism works smoother and i have much less of that sense that the drum is binding but this might just be my imagination.
