hello steve,
i have changed mine twice. this is quite easy to do: first, lightly pry the shift boot to the side so that you can see how the reverse guide works. with the boot open, shift the stick into and out of reverse ( couple of times)to see how the mechanism functions. directly under the shift knob is the reverse toggle and this toggle is connected to the shift knob with 3 tooth clips. push at least two of the clips in to disengage the mechanism and pull really hard on the knob! the shift knob is not glued (put on with pressure) but you will need a rubber hammer to put a new one back on. now that you have gotten it off, you should know how to put it back together.
pay special attention to how the reverse guide works!
hope this helps!
