Could I have overtightened rims with the stock wrench?

...put my 17s back on the car today :) (What a great feeling BTW, car feels sooo much better)
Anyway, when tightening the 17s, I used the "stand on the wrench" method to fully tighten the lugs. I don't weight much, maybe like 135....but by the time I was almost done, the SAAB wrench was shot...stripped pretty badly. I had to finish with the wrench from my mom's 9-5.
Could I really have overtorqued? Or, is the wrench just crap? I will have them torqued to spec at my next oil change anyway though.
