I have a 93 with about the same number of miles. First, let me
say that I love this car. Overall, it has been great, and I'm glad
I bought it. Now, on with the recommendations for you...
I bought it used
at about 20k miles and it almost immediately needed to have the
turbo replaced under warranty. Apparently there was a problem with
one of the seals on the turbo unit that caused it to leak a small amount
of oil into the exhaust. On a cold start, there'd be a large puff of
blue smoke from the tailpipe. I'd check to make sure the seller has
either had the turbo replaced under warranty, or I'd make sure to see the
car started cold. If the turbo wasn't replaced under warranty, then I'd
get a discount from the seller for possible replacement. Do a search
on this site for "blue smoke" or similar such topics, and you'll see
a lot. This was a common problem.
Another thing that went out was the Direct Ignition Cassette. That is the
big boxy-looking unit that sits on top of the engine and controls the
firing of the spark plugs. What happened was that the engine light
came on, and I had the code read at an independent dealer. It was a
misfiring indication. I read up here on Saabnet and found that these
DI cassettes can go out suddenly. So I bought a new one for $270 from
an online site and replaced it myself. Not a big deal, but you may
want to ask the seller about that. The DI cassette is another common
problem, which you can also read about on this site.
Good luck.
