The reason why most people list the IDM or spark plugs as possible culprit for P0340 is because that code is for CMP (Cam shaft Position) sensor not CKP (Crank shaft Position) sensor.
The IDM equipped cars doesn't have a CMP sensor per see but the function is built in into the IDMs electronic circuits just like the knock sensor.
The different fault codes for CKP sensor is P0335, 0336 and 0337.
On a non turbo NG900 the CMP sensor is mounted inside the ignition distributor
