I'm with you on dumping the SAAB. I've been a loyal SAAB owner for 20 years, wish to Heaven that I still had my 1982 900T. I put 400K PLUS miles on that, and diddnt start having repair problems untill the last 2 years I owned it... It is still a great around town car, but not able to reliably do the 1000 mile weekend trips I take at least once a month.
I generally take all my cars, even the X-wife's American POS's to over 200K miles plus (1990 Pontiac GP 210K, 1995 Ford Crown VIC 230K, with FEW minor repairs, and recently a 2001 Olds Silhouette which now has 90K+ miles WITHOUT one trip to the dealer......... My 2001 9-3 however, has been a total nightmare. If I wasnt upside down in payments I would dump it now. If I were still near Springfield MO, I'd a bit more comfortable, as John/Nick Taliaferro would be my mechanics, but the Army moves me all over, and now that I am in the DC area, I have no confidence in my local mechanics. I do most of my own repairs using the local Advance Autoparts store to pull the WEEKLY codes of stuff that goes wrong.
I still cant believe I have to drive around in a car that REGULARLY needs a new Ignition system every 35K miles, needs waterpumps, throttlebodies, turbos, power steering elements, wheel bearings, dash components (SID), waterpumps, and the host of assorted sensors, not to mention that even with regular (as in sub 5K mile) Oil changes with synthetic ONLY oil, you can stillhave sludge problems and sudden without warning engine failure.... I look at that and say, what teh He** is wrong with me that I am still driving this thing? Yes, I am well aware that cars have complicated parts, and that parts break, and that this is gripe central, but I've stopped drinking the cool-aid.................. no more excuse making
I USED to love SAABS, the uniqueness, design, versitility, now I feel it is a second rate GM graveyard..... 9-2X - a Subaru (a great car, but COME ON) the 9-7??? PLEASE. I am leaving the SAAB family as soon as I can, and will never return. Sad, my Black Turbo hatchback days are over. THE look and car defined me and my lifestyle for many years, looks like that is over. I've been test driving the last few months, and have a few ideas, but waiting for the $$ to make it worth my while.
OK, rant off, sorry this is so long, it has been building for a while.
