I have ACC, but regardless of the control, to get the compressor to run constantly on any car, the temp has to be on the lowest setting, and the doors or windows have to be open. That way the interior of the car never cools off, and the compressor should keep running.
It can take a long time to charge the system the last few psi when using the consumer kit. 5-10 minutes for the last 5 psi on my car!
As the fluid in the can turns to gas and gets sucked into the system, the can cools off, the pressure inside drops, and the charging slows down. (The evaporation of the fluid in the can works against the process of charging the system.) If you want to speed it up, rock the can gently, and wipe off any frost that forms. That helps agitate the fluid inside, and wiping the frost helps return the can to a temperature where gas will form. Do not turn the can upside down, because letting fluid instead of gas into the low pressure port can screw up the system.
I just let it go at its own pace and watch the gauge. At first the needle goes up quickly, then it slows down and just creeps along. If the AC is not on full, and only cycling, it takes even longer.
