regarding the question of upgraded intercooler vs 3 inch downpipe. i just installed a three inch dp from mp preformance and allready have a sport exhaust in place , it is a tight fit on my 99 9-3 ( with MBC sport exhaust and jr filter)) if you have a non crossflow intercooler but not too bad of an install and probably a breeze if you have a lift.

performance wise it seems to help the turbo spool a bit quicker and seems to smooth the engine out at highway speeds ( i dont's know if its my imagination but it seems like when you let off the gas at say 80 the car does not slow down as much as previous, i thought prev this might just be wind resistance effect but wonder if might not be due to decreased backpressure.overall not a dramatic effect but with the weather being so hot and humid the car seems to be making quite good power and i might be pleasantly suprised when things cool down . i suspect you might see a more dramatic effect by upgrading the intercooler if you have a older non cross flow one than with the downpipe. i have a bit of concern with the dp not having the flex section anymore and wonder about potential for cracking exhaust manifold.

otherwise i have a mp intercooler (and stage 3 powerrchips ECU )sitting in my garage and am justing waiting for a few hours free time to install it!
