Could find precious little on this in the archives, Haynes was of little help and WIS was not totally accurate. Have posted a couple of times on this but with the exception of Czar, no responses (BTW, Thanks CZAR). So I carefully went about removing interior panels and headliner to find the cause of the leak that let water pour in above the back side windows.
There are four potentials for roof leaks;
Sunroof drain lines
Weather stripping at doors and hatch
Rear side panel window seal
Body colored metal strip above rear side windows (unique to coupe only)
Ruled out first two. So I had to tear everything apart inside. Turns out leak was due to rotted rubber seal under the trim piece above the window on both sides. I have not found any posts on this and given my car is almost 12 years old now (built 9/93 as 94 model)I am likely at the leading edge of this problem, so we will see more of this as these cars age. New seal was 21.00 per side from Saab and they should be in any day. The first sign of this is staining on the headliner over the rear side windows, this probably goes unnoticed to many as not many owners ride in the coupes back seat and look at the headliner there. Later on, as leaks get worse car will smell musty and eventually water will drip out near the C pillar top. Coupe owners should keep an eye on theirs.
Since this is a complex job with risk of broken fasteners and panels and since the availiable resources are only partially correct I would like to photograph and chronicle my efforts for future reference here on this board. Sort of like Dip has done. Does anyone know how I can put together this resource for use by others? I have a Fuji 5100 digital camera.
