Dean,
The part was purchased at a Car Quest for $114 after tax (p/n FP E8077), and they must have had a cross ref with Saab because all I did was tell them the make and model of my car and they found the part. The lady behind the counter was pretty surprised they had it, although she said they could have ordered it were it not in stock.
The check the voltage, I had my wife turn the key to “on” while I checked with the meter. Then just to be sure, I had her go to “start” and confirmed that voltage was getting there in both cases. As for next time, I’ll be sure to check the DI with all 4 plugs.
The tank actually didn’t seem too bad. There were to very small pebbles (but they were too big to have made it through the large filter in the input of the fuel filter assembly). Since the failure, I’ve heard a lot of people telling me that it’s better to not allow the tank to go to nearly empty, as the extra fuel helps to keep the fuel pump cool. I don’t know if there’s any truth to that, so if anyone can confirm this, I’d be happy to change my driving habits!
