As you know, Bill, it all comes down to how much the hassle of dealing with an older car is worth to you. As others have pointed out, you can't replace your SET for the money it'll cost to fix it. If the car is still meeting your needs (including the fun-to-drive need and the repair time < available time need), then put the money in and stick with it. If you're tired of the car (after 10 years and 150k!) then walk away with a clean conscience and go find something new. The Mazdaspeed 6, Altima SE-R and Infiniti G35 all have some appeal.....
OUr '96 is doing great, but the '95 is starting to need some attention and I just don't have the time right now. I've backed myself into a nice tidy corner on it - I don't want to sell it until I've fixed the piddly things, and I don't want to get another car until it's ready to sell, but I don't have time right now to fix those piddly things. We did sell the Miata though, which made my wife sad, but freed up some of my time and garage space.
