I am in the market for a 1999-2001 9-3 convertible and have been surprised by the prices that I am coming across with nearly all being at least $1-2K below 'book' value with some as much as $5K under. It seems like Saabs depreciate faster and, as someone once told me, people either like Saabs or they don't and there is little middle ground. Not that I am complaining about the low cost, but I am having a hard time determining if it is simply that nature of the market or if there is something inherently wrong with these particular cars. Should I be suspicious of these prices, or is this simply a reflection of the market?

For example, I drove a 2001 SE with the premium package and 119K miles over the weekend which was listed for $11,500. The car has had one owner and all service records are provided which look pretty complete. I also drove a 2000 SE with 85K miles that was listed for $10,750. The interior needs some work, but overall very nice.

It seems like cars for sale by dealers seem to be more in line with book, but smaller used car dealers and eBay sellers are lower. I know that KBB and Edmunds may not be the best source of pricing, but they are the only resources that I can put my hands on readily.

The '01 SE is looking mighty nice at under $12K, even if it does have nearly 120K miles on the odo. I figure that if I can drive it for a couple of years and put less than $3K into repairs I am still ahead of the game.
